Here’s my review for Twisted which I saw on March 1st and is just one of the three movies I have on my list to review. “Hidalgo” and “Starsky and Hutch” are the others.
The Main Characters
--Jessica Shepherd (Ashley Judd) is a cop who is still troubled by her father, who was also a cop going crazy one day and killing her mother and himself. She has recently been promoted however from being a regular cop to investigating deaths. Her first job happens to be following the deaths of men she has an interesting connection to.
--Mike Delmarco (Andy Garcia) is a fellow cop who is assigned to be Jessica’s partner. They are the ones investigating the recent rash of killings in the Bay Area.
--John Mills (Samuel L. Jackson) is the police commissioner who is Jessica’s father figure. He has looked after her since her parents died.
The Setting
This movie takes place in and around San Francisco.
The Plot
Ok, so you’re a female cop who just got promoted to solving homicides, which is ironic considering that you’re father went homicidal and killed himself and your mother. So you go to investigate and the first person’s death you investigate happened to be of a man you slept with. Odd right? Well, what happens when other men you have slept with died too? Sounds fishy right? Well, this is the movie’s plot. Jessica Shepherd is promoted to be a homicide detective and her partner will be none other than Mike Delmarco. Jessica’s had a rocky childhood though. Her father went crazy one day and killed her mother and himself so she’s been scarred since then. Luckily, the chief of police, John Mills, took Jessica under her wing and groomed her into being a very good cop. Once the bodies start piling up though, everyone is a suspect, even Jessica herself.
My Review
Well, I can’t give too much of the film away, since it’s a thriller “which will keep you guessing until the last frame.” That’s the trailer’s words, not mine. I think the movie was pretty good. I thought Ashley Judd acting was very good. The suspense was pretty good too. As the bodies start piling up, you really do wonder whom the murderer is. Is it John? Jessica? Mike? No one knows. That’s why you’d want to watch the movie. It’s just basically another version of any other thriller movie made so if you’ve seen a lot you’ll probably be able to guess the ending, but it wasn’t horrible enough to warrant a non-viewing.
