The Main Characters
--Mort Rainey (Johnny Depp) is a rather eccentric writer who escapes to the solitude of his cabin after finding his wife with another man. Of course, things start going wrong when a man shows up accusing Mort of stealing his story.
--John Shooter (John Turturro) is an imposing looking man with a long black trench coat and black Stetson style hat. He shows up unexpectedly at Mort’s door accusing him of stealing his story.
--Amy Rainey (Maria Bello) is Mort’s ex-wife who Mort found in bed with another man once. She now resides in their palatial house while Mort stays in the cabin.
--Ted (Timothy Hutton) is the man Amy cheats on Mort with. He gets increasingly upset at Mort’s refusal to sign the divorce papers.

The Setting
The story mainly takes place in Mort’s cabin in a fictional town in upstate NY.

The Plot
A few months earlier, Mort Rainey caught his wife cheating on him with some guy named Ted. This of course led to their separation. Mort retreated into the solitude of his cabin in a fictional location in upstate (Tashmore Lake) New York while his wife lived in their big house in Riverdale, NY. Mort is a writer, and a prolific one at that. He writes in his cabin and is working on another story when a mysterious man from Louisiana knocks on Mort’s door accusing him of stealing a story he wrote. This mysterious man calls himself John Shooter. Shooter accused Mort of stealing a story called Secret Window. Mort knows this man is lying since Mort wrote his and got it published in 1995 while this Shooter character says he wrote his in 1997. Mort tries to get his hands on a copy of the original print so he can prove Shooter wrong but can’t seem to get a copy. Something always happens. He wanted to get it from his wife’s house but the house burned down. He went to get an original copy from his publicist but it was missing those pages! People start dying too. The few people who knew about Shooter turned up dead and Mort doesn’t know what to do. Things get shocking near the end when Mort’s wife and Ted go upstate to see what’s wrong with Mort…

My Review
I’m kind of torn as to what to give this movie. It was really interesting if not a little predictable. The story was pretty decent too, not great or anything, but decent. What really saves this movie is the acting of Johnny Depp. Depp was incredible in this movie and really saved it from mediocrity. Had Depp not been in this movie I think it would’ve been a lot worse. John Turturro I thought was pretty convincing as John Shooter. I thought he pulled of the creepiness angle pretty well. To sum it up, the story in essence was pretty weak. It got pretty predictable less than halfway through the movie. The saving grace of this movie is Johnny Depp carrying this movie on his back. His acting had me captivated through out the film and he gets big kudos for it.
