The Main Characters
--Ella of Frell (Anne Hathaway) is a young girl who when born was given a “gift.” A gift of obedience. She has to obey everything she’s told. This hasn’t really been a problem until her evil stepsisters move in and use it to their advantage. So she goes to the fairy who gave her the gift to have it taken away.
--Prince Charmont (Hugh Dancy) is a prince who is about to become king. He has a huge fan following but one day meets Ella, who is against the politics of the current king. The two fall for each other and Charmont goes with her to the fairy.
--Prince Regent Edgar (Cary Elwes) is Charmont’s nefarious uncle. He is a bad king and had Charmont’s father killed to become king, though Charmont doesn’t know that. He is plotting a way to rid himself of Charmont and tries to use Ella’s “gift” to help him get his way.

The Setting
The fairy tale land of Frell and surrounding areas.

The Movie
When she was first born, Ella of Frell was given a gift by Fairy Lucinda. The gift was that of obedience, she must do every thing she is told. When her mother passes away her father marries another woman and when she moves in she brings with her 2 wicked stepsisters. The stepsisters found out about her gift and soon have her doing whatever they want.

Coinciding with the stepsisters arriving is Prince Charmont’s ascension to the throne. His father was killed so his uncle Regent Edgar had been taking over and his doings has found disfavor with Ella. When Charmont comes to Frell to speak his fan club is there (lead by Ella’s evil Stepsister Hattie) Ella protests. Hattie sends her home against her will as the fans charge Charmont who runs away. Of course, Ella and Charmont run into each other and Charmont immediately falls for Ella who chastizes him for his political standings.

Ella realizing she is starting to fall for Charmont goes off in search of Fairy Lucinda to have the gift taken away. She runs into trouble along the way and Charmont is amazingly there to save her. He follows her on his journey for a bit leading them to the land of giants where Ella dances and sings Queens, “Someone to Love.” It’s true. Ella can’t quite find the fairy and instead goes back (against her will) with Charmont at his crowning. Things start going badly for Ella when Charmont’s evil uncle tells her that he actually killed Charmont’s father to be king and he plans to do the same to Charmont. He knows of Ella’s “gift” because Hattie told him so he commands her to kill Charmont. What happens is purely fairy tale, but that fits the story of course.

My Review
Honestly, I don’t know what possessed me to walk into this movie during a break and watch a few minutes. Maybe it was because it was the only movie playing and on the lowest floor where the food was. Anyway, I’m glad I went. It spurred me to go a few nights later and watch the entire thing. It is not a kid’s movie like I thought. Scratch that, it’s a kids movie but it’s not just for kids, kind of like Shrek or Finding Nemo. It’s just such a nice, sweet movie that anyone can enjoy. It’s not the best movie you’ll see this year but it’s a totally enjoyable 2 hours of movie-going experience and nowadays with all these huge budget movies that fail to deliver, it’s refreshing. I would recommend this movie if you want to see a cutesy movie and just want to sit and relax and enjoy.
