Misc. Reviews

You know, I think I will group these Catch-Up’s into different groups. First we did Miscellaneous, usually just a few titles here and there (which will include Runaways and anything else I get), and then we have Marvel Knights (for lack of a better term) that will deal with the Max series and Daredevil books. That’s what you’ll be reading today. Then we’ll be hitting up (not necessarily in order); The Bat-books (Batman, Detective Comics and any mini’s), Fantastic Four books (the core title, Marvel Adventures, Black Panther and any other mini’s) and two groupings of X-Books probably one dealing with Uncanny, X-Men, Astonishing, X-Factor and New X-Men and then another with the other titles. Sound good? So, off we go.

Catching Up – Marvel Knights:

-Punisher #’s 47-50- This concludes the story of the Mafioso wives banding together to kill Frank and the woman who is on his side. It is standard fare; she gets revenge on the women then takes her own life. I wasn’t too blown away with it but #50 started an awesome story where Barracuda sets up an elaborate plot to capture Frank then reveals to Frank he actually has a kid, and shows Frank the girl!

-Punisher Presents: Barracuda #’s 4-5- Barracuda continues his reign of terror and honestly, it’s just a 5-part mini to have Barracuda cuss and kill people. This mini was pretty pointless and wasn’t even mentioned in Punisher #50 showing how irrelevant it is.

-Daredevil #’s 97-99- Daredevil battles Gladiator, who is under someone’s mind control. Gladiator even goes after Mila so DD (who was captured by police after fighting Glad) breaks free to save her. He saves her but it was really a distraction from other criminals killing bodega workers and stealing from them, rampant crime not usually seen in Hell’s Kitchen. DD finds out about this and finds who is behind this. He jumps headlong into a building with the Enforcers where a strange gas impairs him. Mr. Fear makes his appearance as the man behind it all, saying he knows his wife and may be behind Milla inadvertently pushing a man into an oncoming subway train.

-Daredevil: Battlin’ Jack Murdock #’s 1-3- This is a longer retelling of the story we are all familiar with in Daredevil: Man Without Fear. There’s really nothing new added to the DD mythos but it is at least quick and entertaining. Newer fans not familiar with MWF (though they should definitely pick it up!) will get an added dimension to DD’s father but us grizzled veterans know it all already.

The second part of the second volume is over, so join us when I get around to part 3 for more comic goodness!
