Wednesday Comics #3
-Batman- Batman spies on the grieving widow and her stepson (who is much older than her) and references to her changing the will to give her 100% and the son slapping the trophy wife are all witnessed. This is a decent one-page mystery starting up so far. 1/1.

-Kamandi- Kamandi and Tuftan are saved from the troop of rats when Dr. Canus (a dog) swoops by in his balloon to save them. They are on their way to save Tuftan’s father when they encounter a woman (a woman!) being chased by some wild apes. I’m still loving this. 2/2.

-Superman- Superman still feels like an outsider and after seeing Lois working he decides to go home to Smallville to be with his parents. Well, three issues in and I still don’t think anything all that great has happened. Yeah, Superman’s an outsider we get that. I’m just not feeling this story. 2/3.

-Deadman- Deadman takes over the killer’s body but instead of stopping the murder he’s sent hurtling through his mind and into the realm of Kalak. I never really read anything of Deadman but these three-issues have done a lot to explain who he is and his powers to get me hooked. 3/4.

-Green Lantern- Hal shows up at the bar to chill with his friends when he sees the astronaut on TV become a bug. He flies off to help him. This is moving a bit slowly but the fun-loving Hal of the 60’s is really cool to read instead of the very heavy conflicted character he is now. 4/5.

-Metamorpho- This is another great one-page spread and I think I get what is going on. These are splash pages to show off Allred’s art and it is quite visually pleasing. The little panels on the bottom with the kids is excellent, too. It reminds me of these old 60’s commercials/ads. This is cool, retro, stuff. 5/6.

-Teen Titans- The Titans regroup after getting their collective asses handed to them by Trident and now they seek medical support. So the meds arrive and one of them talks down to “their kind.” Sure enough, the medical aircraft is soon attacked by Trident. This is a lot of fun and I enjoy the Titans being down on their luck. It reads like a Teen Titans cartoon come to think of it. 6/7.

-Strange Adventures- Strange Adventures continues to get strange. Adam Strange is captured by Korgo and his evil aliens all so his lady friend will be okay. He focuses on the Zeta-Beam but something goes awry and he’s zapped away to where we don’t know. Another fun adventure from Paul Pope. 7/8.

-Supergirl- Supergirl finds Krypto but is shocked to see Streaky fly off after a plane with a mouse on it. I guess this would be the all-ages adventure in Wednesday Comics? I still don’t care for this story. I guess I feel I am too above it and it is really centered for really young readers. I just don’t see the point of it yet. 7/9.

-Metal Men- The Metal Men help the police stop some of the bank robbers but one of them grabs a kid hostage and dares them to stop him from shooting her. The Metal Men are fun characters but this whole storyline is actually pretty simplistic. It is still enjoyable, but nothing groundbreaking. 8/10.

-Wonder Woman- Wonder Woman continues with the weird dreams (that are probably not really dreams) and battles two Asian mythological creatures who want something from the Amazons. Wonder Woman stops them (of course!) and sleeps peacefully. I’m enjoying the is it a dream or isn’t it aspect of the story. Also there is sooo much crammed in here it is amazing. 9/11.

-Sgt. Rock- Easy Co. look for Sgt. Rock. Yes, I summed it up in one sentence. So the story is moving slowly and it’s taking a while to develop but I say, who cares? It’s freaking Joe Kubert. 10/12.

-Flash- Iris walks out on both Flashes (the current one and the one from 10 minutes in the future. They both travel back in time but overshoot and end up well ahead of time with a new Flash (who makes a smart-ass remark about not remembering if it is their first time in the future or not) and tells them that Iris died at the hands of Grodd. They rush back to the past to save her. This is an awesome story of two Flashes trying to save the woman they love and messing with time in the process. 11/13.

-Demon & Catwoman- Catwoman gets trapped in a necklace and then becomes a cat? WTF? And where is the Demon? What’s going on? 11/14.

-Hawkman- Hawkman dispatches of the terrorists except for one, who transforms into a Makkorthian (a crab-like creature). He warns that the Makkorthians will take over the Earth and that not even Rann can stop them. Have the Makkorthians ever been seen before? I am too lazy to do a Wikipedia search (and this is late enough as it is) but they seem really interesting. And an Earth Invasion storyline? Hey, why not. Let’s see if Baker can do it better in 12 one-page stories than all of Secret Invasion. 12/15.

-The Bottom Line- The third issue has been the best of the bunch so far. A lot of the stories are coming along very well with my personal favorites being the Kamandi and the Flash stories. Batman, Green Lantern and Hawkman have all been great as well. In fact, this turned in a 12/15, gaining one point from last week. This is still an innovative idea and DC is really running with it by telling some great stories.
