X-Infernus brought Magik back into the X-Men continuity and back to the revitalized New Mutants title. This was the first mini-series to focus on Magik and her time in Limbo and what exactly happened to age her seven years in the blink of the X-Men’s eyes. Quite simply, Magik falls under control of Belasco, who uses parts of her soul and encloses them in a pentagram and when all five points are filled, Belasco can come to Earth and conquer it. Storm and Cat, Limbo versions of Storm and Kitty Pryde, help Magik try to get away from Belasco. Storm tries to train her, Cat takes her, Belasco gets the better of both of them and Magik defeats him to go back home.

-The Bottom Line- CB Cebulski pens the introduction and he talks about not buying the first issue based on its boring cover but getting the second one based on the kickass cover. He talks about his love for the Magik stuff that led to him eventually writing X-Infernus. Unfortunately I bought this after the whole mini-series ended and it would’ve been helpful if I read it before that mini came out but such is life. I notice the Marvel Premiere Hardcovers are doing that, bringing back classic (I’m talking 80’s/90’s classic) storylines that are important to new events in the Marvel Universe which is a great idea to show people why we should care about plots and stories that happened 20+ years ago.

The question here is, do we get a good value from this book? It cost $20, the mini itself is only four-issues long, and clocks in at 100 pages. There are no extras included and you can easily get the mini-series on E-Bay for about $10. So value-wise I don’t think it is that great. At least in the most recent Hawkeye Premiere you get other issues to supplement what was included. Furthermore, although the story was good, it wasn’t more than that. It was a decent story and all but it wasn’t great and one I won’t remember for a long time. Take a pass on this one, unless you’re a super-huge Magik fan and really want to read CB’s introduction.
