Wednesday Comics #4
-Batman- Batman takes a back seat as Bruce Wayne takes control. Bruce talks to the widower to try to get more information on her possibly killing her rich husband and the brother’s possible role. I really like that (thus far) we have an issue with Batman and then an issue with Bruce Wayne and how Bruce will do whatever he has to in order to solve a case. 1/1.

-Kamandi- Kamandi hops out of Canus’ blimp to save the girl but he is almost overcome by the Gorilla’s. Tuftan comes out for the save and they are both shocked to see Canus’ blimp explode at the hands of the apes. Another great installment of Kamandi. 2/2.

-Superman- Superman is at home, goes to a fair, stares in the sky, and then finds something in a box in his barn. What’d he find? I don’t know. This is just going too slow right now. 2/3.

-Deadman- Deadman encounters a huge beast ready to behead him. Luckily Deadman is able to escape but you know what they say about out of the frying pan and into the fire? Yeah, Deadman is totally into the fire now as some crazy other insectoid beings are about to attack him. 3/4.

-Green Lantern- Hal flies off to save Major Dillon (who was transformed last issue) and he remembers his past with Dillon. Like the Superman story this is moving a bit slow but at least we have a plot going and a reason for this story to be in here, and that earns it a point. 4/5.

-Metamorpho- We are done with the huge splash pages (and with it the little kids’ corner at the bottom) and instead focus more on the story. Metamorpho et al encounter a female Metamorpho (!) and she tells him that only a metamorphic man can retrieve the Star of Atlantis. Metamorpho seems to have been hypnotized, too. The art is fantastic and the story is really moving now. 5/6.

-Teen Titans- The Titans are still thoroughly getting their asses kicked by Trident but most escape from the downed injury deck. Blue Beetle tries to attack Trident on his own Jaws style but I don’t think it turned out too well. Like I said before, it has a cool Teen Titans animated vibe and the cast they are using works well together. 6/7.

-Strange Adventures- This focuses on the captured Alanna and how she manages to escape from the forces of those aliens that have imprisoned her. She figures that Adam has been teleported to Earth. This is really cool outside the box stuff. 7/8.

-Supergirl- Supergirl sees Streaky about to attack the mouse plane and she’s like, oh crap, when he does. You know what, I liked this. I complained how I didn’t see the point of this all-ages story in here but what the hell do I know? I am a curmudgeon I guess. This is fun. 8/9.

-Metal Men- We get a little history of the Metal Men and what they are (which Magnus explains to a robber) and one of the robber’s is quickly subdued. Some crazy in a suit of TNT swears revenge on Magnus. Just his luck that he was in the same bank as Magnus! This conveys a lot of the fun of the Metal Men and I appreciate that.

-Wonder Woman- Wonder Woman has another dream that is anything but a dream and I understand clearly now her mission of finding some of the lost stars of the Amazon world. How it ended up in all these crazy places is anyone’s guess. Again, so much is crammed in here that it is astounding. 10/11.

-Sgt. Rock- Easy Co. find some Russian spies as Rock continues to be tortured. It looks like the end may be nigh for Rock, though. As a Howling Commando’s fan I am loving this. 11/12.

-Flash- So the Flashes are back in time to save Iris and Iris is completely unaware of anything yet. So the Flashes show up and Gorilla Grodd actually anticipated both Flashes being there. Time travel makes my head hurt! This is great. 12/13.

-Demon & Catwoman- So Demon tries to tame Catwoman but can’t so he suspends her in the air. He then says he’s gonna go somewhere. Whatever. This is the only title that I really don’t enjoy reading. 12/14.

-Hawkman- Hawkman kills the final alien, who preps the rest of his squad for invasion. Only Hawkgirl is able to stave them off since the rest of the JLA are unavailable. Hawkman now needs to save the plane and it should be easy since it has both wings. Wait, we spoke too soon. Another great offering from Kyle Baker. Also, last review I called him Scott. I guess I’ve been checking my Fantasy Baseball too much. 13/15.

-The Bottom Line- We are four issues in and really in the groove. All the titles now are past the first act (or first third) and almost all are improving over last week. That’s all you can ask for is for each issue to be better than the last and so far that is happening with Wednesday Comics. The novelty has worn off and we have stories that warrant a purchase instead of the novelty of it.
