This is an old magazine (coming out in August I believe) that I just finished recently. It was a commemorative issue that celebrated the 70 years that Marvel has been printing comics. The magazine can be separated into 8 main sections: the Timely era (1939-late 50’s), the Marvel Age of Comics (1962-1969), the different toys featuring Marvel characters over the years, a really cool interview with an archivist who works with Marvel Masterworks, another cool interview with a superfan who now runs the OHotMU books, a look at Marvel in the late 90’s through the comic boon and its subsequent demise and bankruptcy. The Young Guns are the next featured article followed by a look at the NEXT 70 years and interviews with Joe Quesada, Dan Buckley and David Gabriel. Finally, two Golden Age stories are reprinted.
-The Bottom Line- This was a very expensive magazine, coming in at $9.99. With a price tag like that you have to ask, was it worth the price? The articles were a good look at the history of Marvel but it wasn’t anything you couldn’t find on sites like Wikipedia. The strengths of this magazine lie with the interviews that were conducted. All the interviews were really interesting to read and were very informative. The one with the OHotMU editor was especially memorable. There was also tons of information on the sidebars including the Marvel Hall of Fame, the Eisner winners, and outfits from the different decades that made this a lot of fun to go through. I think the price was a little too high for my liking but I still think it delivers on value and it is a nice addition to your Marvel collection.
