Happy 4th of July!
July 4th, 2010

Hey everyone!!! Happy 4th of July!!! This is the second time I start this column (stupid backspace button sending me back a page) so if it is a litthe short that is the reason why. I guess that means I'll just hit the main points. I'm currently watching the Macy's Fourth of July fireworks display on my brand new 42-inch Plasma TV. I'm only a few miles away from the dispay but it is way too hot outside and I'd rather watch it from here than over there. As I'm watching the fireworks I am also listening to a commentary of the next DVD review that should be posted here. It's one that you guys would be very surprised that I'm doing.

Speaking of DVD reviews I actually have my first one posted since way back to the last week of May. It's been awhile and it seemed like June was very busy and stressful even though I had a lot of time off. I was able to kick-start it near the end of June when school finally ended and the fruits of that labor is Iron Man: Complete The Animated Series. Ironically that last DVD review I finished was another Marvel animated series - The final X-Men volume. Like I said, the next DVD review I will have done will be drastically different than those two. I hope to finish a lot of DVD reviews this summer and I have a lot of collections left to finish. I am going to try and average 6 DVD reviews a month so I can bang out 12 during the vacation. This will combine both newer releases (Family Guy Vol. 8, American Dad Vol. 5, Batman Under The Hood, Ricky Steamboat) and older releases I have yet to do (mainly WWE Anthology stuff). I've also been doing about 2 Trade reviews a week and when you consider the weekly WWE Classics.com content and TPL that's a bunch of reviews to be doing a week! Thankfully I have time for that, though I try to temper all this time to do DVD reviews to doing housework so it's been averaging to about 2-hours of each a day.

That's all I have for now. I was going to talk about the World Cup but I just ran out of time! I may try to type something up sometime during the upcoming week. We'll be back here on Tuesday (TPL), Thursday (WWE Superstars), Saturday (a trade review) and Sunday (a WWE PPV that was a special release on Classics). Once again, enjoy the rest of your Fourth of July and tomorrow's observed holiday!

Viva Espana!
July 11th, 2010

The World Cup has come and gone. I have to say I lost interest in it considerably after the USA lost but I did manage to catch almost all of the games. I saw Spain and Netherlands and really the finals and semi-finals weren't too impressive. I was rooting for Germany and Uruguay to get to the finals but they lost and I had almost 0 interest for this match but watched it anyway. Forlan got the Golden Boot and that man deserved it. He was definitely the MVP and without him Uruguay would've been gone after the first round. Well, I won't be watching soccer for another four years (unless SJU makes it to the finals and it is on ESPN or something).

I don't have anything else sports-related to mention right now besides the loss of Bob Shephard (voice of the Yankees) and the fact that my fantasy baseball has literally fell off the face of the Earth over these last two months. I was in first, then second, then third and after getting crushed again I am hanging onto the last playoff position in 6th. I have a good squad but everyone is slumping at the same time and my #1 pick (Utley) is pretty much done for the rest of the fantasy season. It's sucked but it is nothing I can control so I may as well just sit back and enjoy the train wreck!

I do have a nice review ready for you today. I usually reserve this for DVD reviews but I decided that throwing in the occassional WWE PPV would be enough to keep you folks satiated. It also gives me a breather in case a DVD review isn't ready and since the last Sunday of the month is for the Classics on Demand month I only need to really finish 2-3 DVD reviews a month to stay on top of things. Anyway, the PPV I reviewed is currently running (in slightly trimmed form) on COD. It is the fourth ever In Your House PPV event aptly titled: In Your House 4. I think you should check out the review but long story short - it's rather forgettable (the event that is, not my review). Well, we have a nice week up ahead starting with TPL on Tuesday, WCW Saturday Night on Thursday, a new trade review on Saturday (a Marvel Masterworks collection) and a DVD review on Sunday (a horror movie - that's the only hint you'll get!) Until then, stay cool and stay happy.

Guilts Shows No Mercy
July 18th, 2010

Welcome to your Sunday DVD review. I promised that this one would be different and I wasn't lying. The film that is now up for your reading pleasure is the review of a little horror film called Vindication. This is definitely not something that I usually review (I am not a big fan of the horror genre) but this was directed by a friend of mine and I just had to give it a look. I don't want to give too much away here (click the link - read the review!!!) but it was an awesome psychological/slasher thriller.

Other than that I don't have too much to offer you this week. I've been doing a LOT of housework during these long summer days and I have started running more frequently (did about 10 miles this week). I'll be running a 5K this coming Sunday which I'm not too worried about and I'll be running another half-marathon in September and that's really what I'm working up to. I didn't train as much as I'd like for the one I did in May (although I did it in about 2:45 which I was happy with) and I really want to do this one in less than 2:30.

My fantasy baseball team has been wrectched the past two months. I've not only been losing but I've been blown out. I went from first to fifth place, only 2.5 games out of 7th and missing the playoffs. I did win this week by a slim margin but I hope it is a start in the right direction. My guys just haven't been performing as well as they should. I did swing a MAJOR trade that will go through on Thursday if all goes well and I'll add another ace to my staff (CC Sabathia) as well as another speedy outfielder (Curtis Granderson). I gave up Strasburg and Cecil to aid his pitching staff and Jason Heyward which should help him but I think I came out on top here. Strasburg is great and will rack up a ton of K's but he's on an innings limit and I need to look long-term here. Cecil is just a guy I picked up on the waiver wire a few days before and he was expendable. Heyward is a rookie and I don't know if he'll be as good in the second half as he was in the first and is really the only guy I thought about keeping. I know Granderson will turn it around now that he's healthy. Another big addition is Carlos Beltran. He was dropped a few weeks ago and I added him to sit on the DL. He's done well since coming back and I think he can add a nice boost. I'm just waiting for my #1 pick to come back in time for the playoff push (Utley)

I spent way too much time on Fantasy Baseball there (I think I have a problem with being too into it). I do want to talk about the upcoming week. TPL is on tap for Tuesday (I read all the books and just need to write my review down), WWE Superstars should be posted on Thursday, another trade review is coming this Saturday (I actually finished THREE trades this week which is awesome and I have a ton of material ready to carry me through the rest of the summer and into possibly November when summer vacation ends) and in lieu of a DVD review I'll have the monthly WWE Classics.com material ready for Sunday. I do have one DVD review done and ready for the following Sunday and by the time I write this little entry next week I should have another two DVD reviews done (a WWE release and an animated review that you may not expect). Well it is 11:25 and I need to get ready for bed. See you around these parts during the week!

Lazy Sunday
July 25th, 2010

So another week has come and gone. The weeks seem to fly by in the summer when I am on vacation. This has been another good week for me. I've been productive around the house (painting the front railing, the windowsills, and remaining interior doorways/window aread) and the weekend has been really enjoyable, too (did a 5K and placed second in my division - okay it was Clydesdale 2 and only 2 people registered for it but let me have my moment of glory peoples). It's now Sunday evening and I'm just lounging around. A-Rod didn't hit #600, my fantasy team is floundering (I'm losing to the LAST PLACE TEAM. The team that is 60 games out of first and I'm losing 9-5), the weather is finally nice and I feel good. I don't really have too much more to add as I guess I don't have too much on my mind at this point.

I should mention that today my wife and I stayed in to clean around the house and during this time I had the TV on. I flipped and landed on MTV and actually watched a few episodes of Jersey Shore. I didn't watch it on the first go around because I thought it wasn't worth my time. I was amazed at how addicting the show is. Don't get me wrong, the content is terrible. These 8 people are a detriment to society in the way they act and their views on life but it is fun to watch. It's like a train wreck. You know it's terrible but you just can't take your eyes off of it. I think I'll stick around to watch Season 2 although I have a feeling it will be more over the top so that these kids can squeeze as much out of their 15-minutes that they can.

Finally it wouldn't be a Sunday without a Sunday review! I have a few DVD reviews in the waiting (finally building up a little backlog for when the school year starts) and part of the reason that I've built it up is because every end of the month post will include the monthly content from WWE Classics.com. This month on Classics the theme was celebrating Canadians. I thought we'd see some fantastic matches including people like Bret Hart, Chris Jericho, and Edge to name a few. Well, we saw those performers and we saw matches but the whole month seemed to lack that one big match that makes the service so enjoyable. You can check out the review for Classics is Canada by clicking the link and check out the matches that Classics chose. Well, that's all for this week. I will be back here on Tuesday for TPL, Thursday for WCW Saturday Night, Saturday for another trade review and finally Sunday for a brand-new DVD review. See you then!
