Family Guy Vol. 8
August 1st, 2010

I can't believe it is August already!!!!! I guess that means the summer only has one more month remaining! Well, it's been a good summer. I was upstate this weekend visiting my family and that is always a fun time. I played tennis, ran, went shopping and just relaxed. That's why this is late. I don't really use the computer too much upstate. I did have time to check my fantasy baseball team (the less said about it the better - I'm on the outside looking in right now with only 5 weeks left. Luckily I am only .5 games back so I need a big surge to end the season and hopefully Utley and Victorino can return and give my team a boost).

I don't have much more to add. I have the newest DVD review available: Family Guy Vol. 8. It was a good set and definitely check out the review. Looking at the upcoming week we have TPL tomorrow (I still need to read all the issues!), WWE Saturday Night on Thursday (if WWE Classics gets their act together and posts!), a trade review on Saturday and another DVD review on Sunday. Hope to see you here as the week moves on!

History of the WWE Title
August 8th, 2010

I've had an awesome week. Really, every day was fun and I totally hope that every week could be like this. I relaxed a lot (it IS summer), went out a lot (including a nice dinner at Zum Stammtisch - a nice German restaurant) and even took in a ball game. I went to the Brooklyn Cyclones game on Friday and it was a great game. I love Cyclones games because they are cheap, you get awesome giveaways (this time was a free hat!) and the games are fun. The Cyclones tied up the game at 2 after the pitcher on the other squad was pulled (with a no-hitter no less) and they were able to get to the other pitcher. Then in the top of the 9th the pitcher bobbled a play at first (one that he should've made) and as a result the go-ahead run scored. He gave up another run to make it 4-2. I thought the game was over but the Cyclones got the first man on in the bottom of the frame and the game was tied with a homerun. We moved to extras innings, we saw the regular fireworks at 10pm, and the Cyclones won on a walk-off HR in the bottom of the 11th. Great game. I got the mini-mini plan (three games for $48 with free food and a free hat - what an amazing deal).

Saturday was a good day, too. My wife went out to Rte. 110 and had a very productive trip. We finally got the holly and ivy we needed for our newly finished front-yard. I planted them this morning and it looks great. I just need to remember to water them! I am also going out later tonight to meet with some old friends for a nice dinner. I'm looking forward to that and I'll be meeting them in about 2 hours. One thing that's really helped out my week is my Fantasy Baseball team is finally coming around. I am currently winning 14-3 right now (and it should stay around there, although a few of the hitting stats are close). I should be in the top 6 by tomorrow and in playoff position. This is a good time to get hot and I need it in order to get into the playoffs and defend my title. I was in last year as the 5th seed and won the whole thing so it's important for me to get in. I'll keep you updated!

That brings us to our DVD review for the week. This is one I finished about 2 weeks ago (on July 20th) and it is the last of the WWE History DVD's. It is History of the World Title. I encourage you to check out the review! This week should be a pretty straight-forward week in terms of reviews. Tuesday is TPL, Thursday will be WWE Superstars review, Saturday will be a trade review and Sunday looks like another DVD review. I only have 3 DVD reviews left in the tank but I really hope to finish off another two this week. If not I can do one (it is a three-disc WWE review) and easily polish off two next week. I just need some material for when the summer starts! Luckily I have a new laptop and I cn do a lot of review work on here while my wife uses the other computer! Hooray for little things, right?

Peanuts and Fantasy Obsession
August 15th, 2010

Ladies and gentlemen I have come to a realization - I am obsessed with the Fantasy sports teams I am involved in. This is baseball season and I have wasted way too long on going over my roster, setting it up, adding and dropping players and just checking it ad nauseum. The worst came on Friday when I decided to sit RA Dickey against the Phillies since he was shelacked the last time they played. Of course he threw a one-hit complete game shutout. I was so pissed. It didn't get any better when all my guys started playing like shit this weekend. As of now I am down 10-4 and hanging onto the playoffs by a thread with only three weeks left. I realized that I'm just way too into it. I need to take a step back. I will finish out this season (trying not to get too into it although that will be hard) but I don't think I can do Football or Basketball anymore. I will opt out of Baseball next year, too. It's not fun anymore and when it isn't fun anymore it isn't worth it. Of course, I have three guys left going tonight and I will be checking the scores because I need only one single and one stolen base to get a10-6 victory and get some separation from those behind me. See what I mean about being too into it and thinking about it too much?

One of the things I do all the time and still enjoy doing is reviewing DVD's and I do have a new DVD review posted for you readers. This was a DVD I saw in Target one day and it was just one that I knew I had to have. It is Peanuts: The 1960's Collection. It's a simple premise - it just collects all 6 animated specials from the 1960's including the immortal Christmas Special. These collections (I already reviewed Vol. 1 of the 1970's collection and that should be up here shortly) are just awesome and I suggest reading the review to see why. Looking forward we have TPL due up on Tuesday (although I haven't even started yet!) , WCW Saturday Night for Thursday, another trade on Saturday and a WWE DVD Review planned for Sunday. Well, that's all for now. I hope that I WON'T be talking about Fantasy Baseball next week but we'll see.

Yet another HBK DVD Review
August 22nd, 2010

Hey all! I hope you're enjoying your weekend. Up here in NY this Sunday has been a complete rain out. It's okay, I was able to finish working some reviews (Wrestlemania XIII and Summerslam 1997). That just finishes the Summerslam Anthology Vol. II and you should be seeing that DVD review some time soon. I have been knocking out a lot of the back-logged DVD's I have in my collection over the summer break. Unfortunately, I only have about two more weeks of it left! I hope to finish at least two big DVD collections before the end of the summer and work my way through the Rumble, Summerslam and Wrestlemania Anthologies that I've had for the past two years, as well as Saved by the Bell and Full House complete series DVD's, too. That'll tide me over until I am expecting a big purchase of DVD's that are coming out at the end of September. Anyway, I do have a DVD review for you and it is one that I've been sitting on for a few years now and never had a chance to knock out: Shawn Michaels Story: Triumph and Tragedy. Looking ahead to next week we have TPL on Tuesday, WWE Superstars on Thursday, a trade review on Saturday and since it's the end of the month the WWE Classics.com content for the month of August on Sunday. It looks to be another full week!

I don't have much else to say - my goal to stop being so obsessed with my Fantasy Baseball Team actually did work. I checked and set up my line-ups and added or dropped where I needed to but I didn't check the score too often (I was losing the whole week anyway) and didn't stress about not making the playoffs (although I'm in sixth place with two weeks left though only by a game). I was a lot happier this week and I hope this continues. I was down big (11-4) until a timely CG SHO helped me out and made the score 11-6. It's all about picking up as many wins as possible at this point. The #7 guy is someone I'm playing this upcoming week and I'm already dreading the worst - he has 6 starting pitchers over the first two days and most of those guys will end up pitching two games this week. Looks like some pitching stats (Wins and K's) will not go my way this week and those are two stats I usually win. If I do get lucky (all the guys get blown up with 5 losses and a 2.00 WHIP) then I may have a big week and possibly secure my spot in the playoffs. My only saving grace is I'm playing a crap team the last week while the guy I'm playing this week is facing off against the #1 seed who has been far and away the best team in the league. It's gonna come down to the wire and since I've said I won't do Fantasy Sports anymore - it is fitting it comes down to the last week (Hopefully!).

Good Morning, USA!
August 29th, 2010

The title of this week's entry comes from the opening song of American Dad. If you're wondering why I am mentioning a show that is in the middle of repeats right is because that is the focus of the most recent DVD Review! American Dad Vol. 5 is now available on the website. For a short synopsis - the episodes were good though the extras were lacking.

I had a very nice weekend - the penultimate weekend of my summer vacation. I went upstate and visited my parents and played a lot of tennis. Speaking of Tennis - the US Open begins tomorrow! I love the Open and I had a lot of fun attending opening day last year. It is really a great experience and I hope all of you get a chance to experience it. I'm hoping that Roger and Rafa can meet in the finals and honestly I don't care who wins. I'm rooting for Roddick (USA!), Nadal and Federer although if I were a betting man I'd say that Nadal completes his career slam by the time the event is over. The women's draw is wide open thanks to the absence of Serena Williams. I'm hoping that Kim Clijsters can pull off another win.

Anyway, I don't have much to add. I'm going to enjoy my last full week off by finishing up a WWE DVD review, doing some work on the house (I'm working on paneling the upstairs ceiling) and just relaxing. I guess I'll throw in a Fantasy Update. I am in 7th place as the final week of the regular season begins (top 6 make it) and I'm sitting a game out of 6th. I was banking on the guy who is 6th getting killed last week because he was playing the #1 team (who had murdered everyone this year) but of course the #1 team lost 9-5 to keep me on the outside looking for another week. I just need to have a big week (against the 11th place team out of the league of 12) to ensure I get in and have a shot. We'll see. I'll let you know how it goes!
