WWE Superstars 05/11/91
September 17th, 2009

Well, sorry that Wednesday Comics was delayed. I had read it and I only needed to write up the review but I was so tired yesterday I just said forget it. I am getting through the school year pretty well right now. The first full week is always tough just because I need to get the routine going again but I feel pretty good right now and I expect next week to be even better. The only thing I am getting used to is how I can do reviews! I haven't really done anything the last two days and only now finished the May 11th, 1991 Superstars that has just been posted. I figure I will do an hour a day and focus two hours on the WWE Classics.com stuff (most likely on Tuesday and Wednesday) and keep the other days for the DVD reviews. I am going to really try and finish the WWE Allied Powers DVD by the beginning of next week and I have two more DVD's to review though between them they have 9 DVD's and I don't know how I can finish those in a timely manner! We'll just wait and see. Have a good Thursday. TOMORROW'S FRIDAY!

A Quick One Before Bed...
September 20th, 2009

It is Sunday night and it's almost bed time. Yes, another week of work is upon me. I have the weekly DVD review posted tonight and it is a pretty cool one: Robot Chicken Star Wars Volume 2. Definitely check out the review for the follow-up to the hilarious first DVD.  I don't really have much to say right now. My fantasy baseball team is actually in the midst of a monster upset, and I'm just a few minutes away from taking out the number one team. It's still hairy and anything could happen but it looks good for me. My fantasy football team did terrible this week, going up against this guy Gore from San Fran and, well, it's a good thing I don't watch football or otherwise I might care. That's all for now. Tomorrow, HEROES!

Heroes Season Four Debut!
September 21st, 2009

Heroes 09/21/09
Episode 1: Orientation
Episode 2: Jump, Push, Fall

This is the beginning of the fourth season for Heroes and this is a show that has definitely seen its ups and downs. Season One was very well received, Season Two was almost universally disliked and Season Three met to a mixed crowd. What’s good about a show that is entering its fourth season is that the characters are already pretty well defined. In fact, the early portions of the show deal with just the characters and not necessarily their powers. Peter is doing good as an EMT, Claire is trying to adapt in college (even playing guitar hero) while Hiro and Ando try to make their way as heroes in Japan. The first real storyline plants are laid when a traveling carnival with some very interesting workers bury one of their own (who it is we don’t know) and they get the name of Danko as a man they will be hunting down. This is the same Danko who just saved HRG from Bennett and was hunting the super-powered guys from last season. This carnival also plays a role in Hiro’s decline in health as we learn Hiro is dying.

I guess this break would bring us to Episode 2 with some strange occurrences. Claire’s new roommate has jumped to her death, Sylar is still alive inside of Matt’s mind and he wants his body back even though Parkman has given up reading minds, and Danko is killed with Tracy hanging over him. Hiro manages to go back in time to the moment he was at the carnival and finds someone who knows him. He alters the future a bit (making Ando not hated by Hiro’s sister) and that should have ramifications. Peter is visited by Bennett after finding a key in Danko’s body. Peter and Bennett find a compass in the safe that the key opened, the same compass from the opening scene of the series. They are in turn met by a speedster who attacks Peter and Bennett. Luckily, Peter has super-speed powers, too. The attacker leaves and HRG keeps the compass. HRG is actually attacked later on and severely wounded and the compass is taken from him. Parkman takes to using his powers again (to rid himself of an annoying waterboy that is putting the moves on his wife) and you know that is going to lead to bad things. Finally, Claire (the genius) decides to see if her roommates death was really an accident or an suicide by jumping out the window. Why does she always risk exposure like that? Idiot. And of course, someone sees her. This was a bit underwhelming for me. I feel like they are trying to drag this thing out over the full 24 episodes and I don’t know if they have enough material for it. I really like the villains in here (if you can call them villains) and keeping the cast small will definitely help how the plots are moving and continuity. They stopped making the huge mistake they did in Season Two with way too many people and that is change they have made for the better. It was a good episode for fans of the show but I don’t see how it would do anything for new viewers tuning in. Green Lantern Week Continues
September 27th, 2009

In a completely random event, both the trade paperback and the DVD review posted this week had the same titular character in common: Green Lantern. Green Lantern Chronicles was posted yesterday  and today sees the debut of the Green Lantern: First Flight DVD. If you want a short summary, DC continued its awesome original straight-to-DVD animated programs trend.

I didn't have time to post it earlier so I'm posting it tonight. That's the WWE Superstars review from May 18th, 1991. I actually finished it on Thursday but since Wednesday Comics wasn't done I didn't even remember to post it. Oh well.

Tomorrow you can expect the weekly TV round-up (75% of Animation Domination and Heroes) so check back then. Also, this is the beginning of the final week of Fantasy Baseball and after the first week of being in the finals, I am in a nice lead. I hope I can keep it up and win it. I had a crushing loss against my co-workers in the finals of basketball and finished a disappointing third in hockey so this would be a huge win that would give me some cash and get my name on the trophy bat that is in the worker's lounge. I'll let you know how things turn out next week!

The Cleveland Show Debut! plus three other shows.
September 28th, 2009

The Cleveland Show 09/27/09
Season 1 Episode 1: Pilot
This one is simply called, “Pilot.” This one really succeeded where Seth’s previous animated pilot (American Dad) failed. First, it actually had well-defined characters from the beginning which was helped because Cleveland had 7 years to grow on Family Guy. Second, it was actually funny. The story was really basic; Cleveland’s divorce goes through and he loses the house to Loretta while getting full custody of Cleveland Jr. He wants to go to California to work as a minor-league scout for his old hitting buddy, Joe Torre. On the way he stops by Stoolbend, his old hometown. He runs into his old flame, Donna, and learns she’s divorced with two kids of her own. Cleveland stays with her for a night and makes an impact but again loses her to his old rival. Cleveland bails but his son convinces him to return and return he does. He gets married to her and now he has his own TV show! Like I said, the characters were a lot better defined. Besides Cleveland we have a talking bear, a southern hick and a whiny man-child who still lives at home. There were some genuinely funny things here (Cleveland’s house getting busted by Peter again) and this show is off to a lot better start than American Dad and it actually wins show of the night honors. B+.

Family Guy 09/27/09
Season 8 Episode 1: “Road to the Multiverse”
This is another Road To… episode for Family Guy and it lived up to the tradition of the others and in fact may be one of the better ones. This episode really just works as a way for the writers to get Stewie and Brian in as many ridiculous alternate dimensions as possible. They do make it to some funny ones, including a world where Christianity never existed (and Earth is now about a 1000 years ahead of where we are now), a Robot Chicken world (with Seth Green chiming in as Chris and the usual ribbing of the show), a Flintstones world, and a Disney-drawn world complete with song and anti-Semitism. Eventually they get to a world run by dogs and Brian wants to stay, but when Stewie is arrested they manage to escape when dog-Stewie and human-Brian help them. They return home with human-Brian but he’s quickly killed off to return everything to its status quo. This really reminded me of the comic book the Exiles with the romps through alternate universes and even though some of the universes were hit or miss, the hits outnumbered the misses. B.

American Dad 09/27/09
Season 5 Episode 1: “In Country…Club”
American Dad takes a rare seat as the worst episode of Animation Domination this week (and I’m including the Simpsons in this, since I actually caught that episode with Homer becoming the hero and it was the best show of the night, too). The show never got going. There was a lackluster main story of Steve suffering Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after going through a Vietnam War re-enactment. Why was he in a Vietnam War re-enactment? Well, because Stan thought that would help him sing the National Anthem better. The b-story of Roger eating a bird and watching Barbara Streisand sing Celine Dion was even more ridiculous. As I was watching this even my wife, who wasn’t paying attention to this show, said it wasn’t that interesting. This was not a great way to start the season. C-.

Heroes 09/28/09
Season 4 Episode 3: Ink
Peter’s heroics results in him being served court papers but it is really just a ruse in order to get him to make a deal with one of the traveling carny guys and you know they have some sort of devious scheme up their sleeves. The highlight of the episode was the stuff with Matt Parkman and Sylar, with Sylar really messing with Parkman’s mind and causing him to do things he normally wouldn’t and see things he shouldn’t. That was an awesome aspect of an otherwise dull show. I really don’t like the character of Claire and I just find the character so annoying and just plain stupid. She’s telling her new friend all her secrets and I know it won’t turn out well. What was up with no Hiro and Nathan, too? I really thought the writers phoned this one in, with most of the characters staying kind of stagnant here. We did see a new character, a deaf woman who can see colors in sounds. The first thing I thought was, a blind Dazzler?
