WWE Superstars 02/23/09 AND the Classics.com Month of June
July 2nd, 2009

We have a whole variety of WWE stuff this holiday weekend, starting with today' s post. This is the usual day to debut the newest review of WWE Superstars that is available on WWE Classics.com. That newest episode os the February 23rd, 1991 edition of the show.

But the wrestling reviews continue! This is one of the first days of July so that means that the June category of WWE Classics.com has come to an end. The topic this month was Nice Guys Finish Last. This deals with the heels of wrestling and their dastardly deeds. There are some really great matches thrown in here and you should definitely check out the reviews of the great matches thrown in. The wrestling stuff will continue into the weekend with two WWE DVD reviews coming along. I'm also finishing up the new Macho Madness DVD so look for that to be posted in the coming weeks.

Finally I would be remiss to talk about today's Wimbledon Women's semi-finals. It was a tale of two Williams' matches. The first one, Serena vs. Elena Dementieva was one of the best semi-finals matches in Wimbledon history. It was back and forth and Serena won in an epic three-set match that needed extra sets to finish. Serena heads to the finals where she will play her sister, Venus. Venus played in the second semi-final match and as great as Serena's match was is how bad the Venus match was. Venus didn't play badly at all, oh no, no no. It was her opponent, Dinara Safina, who was terrible. Once again she folded under the pressure, losing to Venus 6-1, 6-0. That is just embarrassing. It is going to be another Williams v. Williams final and I do believe that Venus will capture yet another Wimbledon title. The men's matches are tomorrow and I can't wait for them. I really hope that Andy Roddick will beat Andy Murray just because Murray is a pompous ass. Plus Roddick is American and you always gotta cheer on your country-man. I want Federer to win as well making for a hopefully great Roddick/Federer final.

16-14
July 5th, 2009

I would just like to wish everyone a happy Fourth of July weekend to start off. I hope you were able to relax, have a nice BBQ and enjoy the fireworks either at a local event or on TV.

I do have our weekly DVD reviews ready and both are WWE related, as most of the content posted this week has been. First up is an older release highlighting the career of the one and only Roddy Piper. It is called Born to Controversy. Definitely check out the review from one of the wilder personalities in the history of the WWE. The second DVD is a relatively recent one called Greatest Wrestling Stars of the 90's. It's always fun to debate whether or not certain people belong on that list and check out my review for my thoughts on those chosen as well as the matches chosen.

Finally, what a Wimbledon Final. For the second year in a row we've been treated to one of the best matches to ever grace the grass courts of the All England Club. Roddick was amazing the whole match and wasn't broken at all, except in the 30th game of the final set and that was the break that Roger needed to become the greatest champion in men's tennis history. This was his sixth Wimbledon and his 15th Grand Slam title, one more than former record holder Pete Sampras. If you had told me that after losing in Australia Federer would break the record at Wimbledon I wouldn't have believed it. But he won in France and won in England. Up next is the US Open and this could be the fourth time this decade Roger wins three out of the four majors in one year. You have to think that the pressure is off of him now, too. He has his career grand slam and he has the record, he can just go out and play. I do think he'll get another 2-3 majors before his career ends. The only question is can a healthy Nadal challenge Federer's new mark? Hmmmm. For my money, Federer is the best who has played the game. You can argue stats but check this; he's been to 21 straight semi-finals. So the last 21 tournaments he's played he got to the semifinals. This guy doesn't have a bad tournament. That is more than double the next closest mark. These records he's breaking are Gretzky levels of insane. Treasure this now, tennis fans, because there won't be another like Federer for a Looooong time.

WWE Superstars: 03/02/91
July 9th, 2009

Before I head off to CitiField I thought I would post the most recent Superstars episodes added to the great service that is WWE Classics.com. The newest episode presented originally aired on March 2nd, 1991 and featured a variety of stars as well as Ultimate Warrior brutally attacking Brother Love in an unprovoked assault that should've resulted in some form of assault charge and possible jail time.  It's a fun episode. This month's theme on WWE Classics also looks to be fun. It is simply Greatest Rivalries and some matches I have already reviewed include a Bret/Owen match-up from the first episode of ActionZone and the first every HHH/Rock match-up from Shotgun Saturday Night. I can't wait to see what they update later on in the week!

X-Men: The Animated Series
July 12th, 2009

Hey all, welcome to the weekly New DVD portion of the blog. I don't really have much to say today. I think I'm just a bit tired. I've been working around the house a lot and managed to pull up all the carpeting (which was a job and a half) and I am now working in the front yard to get rid of the rest of the grass we have left on our property. Other than that, I've kept my days busy by running at the park and on the marina which is fun. I've also been squeezing in some DVD reviews and my comic reviews in my spare time.

So this week we have a blast from the not-to-distant past and one of my favorite shows of all time. Yes, this week we take a look at Volume 1 and Volume 2 of the X-Men Animated Series from the early 90's. I wish the DVD's were a bit more robust but the shows stand up really well. Check out my review for my full thoughts. That's all I have for now, I'll be back later on this week!
