Robot Chicken: Star Wars

Well, it's the New Year. I hope that 2009 will be as good as 2008, though it is starting off pretty terribly already. It's no one's fault really, just life running its course. Death is never a good thing, but it is inevitable, unfortunately.

Anyway, I won't talk about what's going just because I don't feel it is the time or the place, so I will post here what I usually do, the DVD reviews. I finished this one way back in September, which just shows you how far back my backlog of reviews go, seeing as I post them every week. So yeah, I finished this in September, and there are still 19 reviews I have yet to post on here! That is great, since as things speed up around here at home and at work, the time for DVD reviews will diminish until the great summer begins. So I'm set through the second week of May, and that's if I don't get any reviews done, which I highly doubt. Damn, that was a long tangent. Okay, the new review this week is the awesome Robot Chicken Star Wars. This was done before the great Family Guy episode was, though released afterwards. Just read the review!

That's all I'm up for writing today, see y'all next week for another review.

Australian Open 2009

Yeah, I haven't been posting really at all this month, either on here or on my comic-book blog, but that needs to change. This month has been a very hard month for me, having to deal with the loss of a family-member, dealing with the crap that is St. John's University Graduate Classes (including a Winter Intersession class that was way too long in way too short of a timespan) and working on my school's yearbook, the stress has been mounting. Luckily, the yearbook will be over by mid-February and even though I am taking two SJU classes where the professor's think I have nothing better to do than their stupid fucking class, I just don't care about school anymore. Just give me my master's and let me be on my merry way. It's not like I have learned anything useful in this courses. It's just paying a bunch of money to get a slip of paper. Anyway, that little mini-rant is over and let me get back to my main point. I like to write and I haven't been doing enough of it lately, either with my reviews (and I know I am behind on here, sorry for not really posting this month) or with things that are on my mind. I really want to fix that and this my attempt to try and get some more regular thoughts on this blog. The first thing I want to talk about is the 2009 Australian Open. If you didn't know, I'm a huge tennis fan.

In the women's section of the draw we have a really cool Safina/Serena final that will be played later on tonight (tomorrow morning for me) in Australia. This is a fascinating match-up. Safina really finished strong last year and really built herself up in the off-season. She looks really buff now. Will it be enough to challenge the sheer might of Serena Williams? I don't think so, not yet at least. I don't know if this'll go the distance and Serena has been playing like a woman possessed, so I give this one to Serena, 7-5, 6-3.

The men's final is just an amazing dream match-up of Federer/Nadal. Now, Nadal just played an epic 5-hour match to get to the finals, compared to Federer's rather easy 2-hour match a day before. Federer will be the fresher of the two but this is the finals and anything can happen. What I love about this match-up is that you're really seeing the top two tennis players in the world playinjg each other. I don't know if there's ever been another time in men's tennis where there was such a clear separation between the top 2 and everyone else. Andy Murray was a favorite coming in (despite the fact he's never won anything) but he was dispatched without even making the semis. It is quite clear that Federer/Nadal are the two top dogs in this league. I will be cheering for Federer, because I want to see him tie Sampras' record, but I really like Nadal's game, too, and I could see this going either way. I think we'll see Federer take out his one vaunted foe, the one who has prevented Roger from already having the major record (for he surely would've won another 4 majors had Nadal never played) and setting up a really interesting match-up at Roland-Garros to see if Rog can not only finally beat Nadal, but become the winningest male tennis player ever.

Australian Open 2009

I can't believe we are already 31 days into January. More than 1/12th of the month is now over. Time is going way too quickly. Speaking of time, it seems that I don't have enough of it anymore. Between school and work a large chunk of my time is used on those two things, leaving not as much time to really do things I enjoy like be with my wife, write, work on my reviews, and just relax. It seems my writing always takes the biggest hit when the time dwindles. I will always find time to be with my wife or read, but writing requires me to sit down and actually focus my train of thought into words that make some sort of sense. Even when I do have time to start something, it isn't always a guarantee I'll finish it. Since college I have tons of "projects" I've started that have since fell by the wayside, probably never to be finished. I once started something called a review of every college professor I had, and it started off really well. Then, I had no time to do and as the years passed I eventually forgot all about it and even when I saw it again I couldn't even name all my teachers, so that's one project completely dead and buried. I used to always write songs, too, especially in high school. Now, most were crap and I admit that but towards senior year I had some really good ones. Again, time got in the way and as a result I have half a binder of incomplete songs, and since they will never amount to anything, it's in the basement they stay, never to be seen again.

That is one of my New Year's Resolutions this year. Of course you have the usual lose weight/earn more money combo, but one thing I want to ad to that is to actually write more. I have a ton of reviews I need to post on here and more I am working on, as well as the comic reviews, but I really want to start posting on here with a little more consistency. Fuck graduate courses, they are generally useless anyway, I want to work on stuff that I like, that I enjoy, that I want to do. Throw in with the more writing more guitar playing, because I hadn't been doing nearly enough of that prior to 2009.

I have a lot of ideas floating around in my mind that I hope to commit to this blog in the future. I hope to make up for the lack of reviews with a couple being thrown up tomorrow. Tomorrow is also Super Bowl Sunday. I have no vested interest in the game this year and I have no problem with whoever wins, but I think the Steelers will pull it off. Ditto for Federer tonight. I also want to mention how astonished I am at how Serena Williams just completely destroyed Safina in the women's final. Holy Crap was that an ass-whooping.
