Transformers Season 1: 25th Anniversary Edition
August 16th, 2009
So this is a little late (though some sneaky backdating will mean that no one will ever know!) but there is a good reason for that. So you may ask yourself, how could this possible be late if he's off all summer? Well, since you asked, I have to tell. First, I have three CLEP exams coming up on Tuesday and Wednesday (two on Tuesday and one on Wednesday) with all thre being math tests. As a math teacher you wouldn't think it would be a problem but it is. I am taking College Algebra and College Mathematics (which I am not worried about) but the real zinger is Precalculus. You have to remember the last time I took pre-calc was as a junior in high school which is now 10 years ago. That's a lot of making up to do. So I've been studying all weekend and honestly I still don't know if I can pass it. I'll let you know on Wednesday I guess.
So, besides studying like a fiend I had to drive out to Long Island to visit a friend and then go to my god-son's second birthday. After that my wife and I took a nice run at Long Beach. So I didn't get back home on Sunday until way late and I had to study before I used the computer. Then today I had the electrician come over and finish updating this houses' old fuses into the 21st century. That wasn't bad. What was bad was moving two rooms of furniture from the top floor into the basement in order to finish the floors. A lot more furniture still needs to be moved.
So where does that leave my reviews? Well, they're on the backburner now. I am working on Green Lantern: First Flight as I type and I still need to work on WWE: Allied Powers and Watchmen before I go back to school. Throw in a dozen matches on the most recent WWE Classics.com and Superstars and I really hope that by the end of the week I can be caught up. How will I manage this with no computer (it'll be gone from the first floor because of the floors!) Well, I'm sure it will be finished one way or another.
I guess after all that rambling I should just lay a review out here. It is the 25th Anniversary DVD of Transformers Season 1. I actually sold the DVD already but I did it just so I could pick up the huge collection being offered by Shout! You know, I am out of time now. I just remembered I need to finish TPL, too!
WWE Superstars 04/13/91
August 20th, 2009
Holy Crap I've been busy this week. I think I mentioned it on Monday (back dated to Sunday's post) about how hectic things are. It's calmed down a little bit though by Wednesday (thankfully). First I had to deal with the Electrician finishing. Well, that is done and $3000 later it is one more thing I can cross of my list of things I wanted to do this summer. Second, my CLEP tests are done. Tuesday I had two exams, 9am and 1:30pm. Now I have been going to bed really late because I have been studying and moving furniture so waking up at 9am has been a chore. The 9am exam was College Algebra, the one exam I didn't study for because I teach high school algebra. To pass you need a 50 and I pulled off a 76 out of a possible 80 points. So, no big deal I expected to pass that one. The 1:30pm exam was College Mathematics, a 6-credit CLEP I needed to pass to make my life easier. I did study and I got a 73 out of 80. That was great. I had been studying out of some REA books for the CLEP and it really helped because the sample exams in the book were a lot harder than the one I took.
The rest of Tuesday sucked. It was really hot and I had two pressing things to do. 1) study for my Pre-Calc CLEP and 2) take apart my five-peice China Cabinet that weighs about 400 pounds and move it from the dining room into the kitchen. Well, the china cabinet took the better part of the night and I had to stay up really late to study for Pre-Calc. See, I hadn't taken a course in Pre-Calc since 1999 and the 10-year layoff meant I remembered nothing. I was hoping that the exams in the book would be harder than the actual one but I didn't want to chance it. So, I went in Wednesday morning (after 3 hours of sleep) and was so relieved to get a 65. Now my math credits are complete and I am just one CST, two workshops and 1 class away from my Masters Degree. There was no rest for the weary on Wednesday as I needed to come home and clear the rest of the furniture from the first two floors so the wood-floors could be finished. It was an ardous job and by midnight I just passed out from exhaustion. Almost everything was done and the men came on Thursday morning (around 8, another night with little sleep since I awoke at 7 to finish things off) and they told us, "oh you didn't need to move furniture from the first floor yet, we're only doing upstairs this week." Yep. It was a little depressing at first since now we can't get to our kitchen but at least everything's moved out and we can survive on the first floor with our mattress, computer and TV for now and deal with next week as it comes. Luckily we took enough clothes for the next two weeks!
So, you can see how busy things were and how it is almost miraculous that I got TPL done on time and Wednesday Comics done only two days late. I had Superstars finished by last night and ready to post but I wanted to clear out Wednesday comics, first. So, without any further ado, here is the newest edition of Superstars posted on WWEClassics.com, the April 13th, 1991 episode. Have fun reading it! Hopefully I will be able to pick up the comic books soon and have TPL finished on time again and you're trade and DVD reviews will be posted on time this week. Enjoy!
WWE: Summerslam Anthology Vol. 1
August 23rd, 2009
Well, I have little use of my home right now. I literally have a mattress on my living room floor, a TV and the computer. That's it. It comes with the territory of having the floors done and finished and I know that it will be worth it in a fews weeks when its done, the walls are painted and everything looks nice.
So this week's DVD review is a long one, a 5-DVD set called: WWE: Summerslam Anthology Vol. 1. These things take forever to get done since I go through each event one by one and I won't get to Summerslam until reviewing both that year's Wrestlemania and Royal Rumble. It is definitely a labor of love.
Speaking of love, I have to mention that today is my wife's birthday so I just want to take a minute out of this week's post to wish her a very Happy Birthday.
WWE: Superstars 04/20/91
August 26th, 2009
Well, the floors are finally done in my house (they were refinished) but I can't go on them yet since they need time to dry. So instead of sticking around in a dank basement I decided to head upstate and visit my family and that is where I am at now. I brought all my files some DVD's and this week's comics with me so there shouldn't be any missed reviews this upcoming week.
Speaking of reviews not being missed, today is WWE Superstars day and this week's showing Classics.com is the April 20th, 1991 show. It was loaded with matches, a rarity for early 90's Superstars. I have to say, I am more excited for next week's episode. I have also finished the August WCW reviews (this month's theme for Classics.com) but I still need to spell-check it and go over it again before I post it. You can expect to see that by next week.
That's all for now, it is time for me to relax now!
Saved by the Bell Seasons 1 and 2
August 30th, 2009
I had this one all ready to go but I guess it never got a) posted and even worse b) saved. So I am just rushing this one out here so that it can get out there. The newest review up today is for Saved by the Bell Seasons 1 & 2. It's a big 5-DVD set that took a while for me to work through. I don't do these TV sets that often (in fact I still have the final 3 seasons of SBTB and the final 4 seasons of Full House to work through, too. Anyway, I will leave you all right now since I still have a ton of house work to get to before school starts next week!
