The McCartney Years, Hancock and Wimbledon thoughts

Hey all!! I hope you enjoyed your fourth of July! Mine was very relaxing thanks for asking. First order of business, a new DVD review has been posted! This time it is the McCartney Years, a three-disc collection looking at Paul's solo career after the first band he was in broke up. Check out the review for what my thoughts were on it. I am currently working on an American Dad V3 review, and I actually have some WWE DVDs coming in which I will attempt to review for the first time since I stopped watching the product in 2003. They aren't current stuff, but rather the historical collections they do.

Moving on, I caught the movie Hancock last night, starring Will Smith as a down on his luck superhero who is more concerned with where his next bottle of whiskey will come from rather than saving the world. Jason Bateman plays the big-hearted PR guy who tries to improve Hancock's image and Charlize Theron plays his wife. It was a good 90-minute flick. Don't look too much for plot development and there were a bunch of plot holes, and the twist in the middle of the film leaves some puzzled but it is just an enjoyable movie. I sat there and was entertained for the entire 90-minutes. It never took itself too seriously, it had its fun moments, and in the end it is worth the $10 you will pay for it. I probably won't be getting this one on DVD but I won't avoid it when it comes on TV. Will Smith is his snarky best as the disgruntled hero, and Bateman and Theron do a good job in their roles. **1/2 for a fun summer movie, a movie that made a killing in the box office this weekend.

Finally, what a Wimbledon final it was, pitting perennial champ Roger Federer against the clay-court master Rafael Nadal. Last year they played a classic five-set match and many thought it would be hard to top it, but they did, and it was the most exciting game I had ever watched. Both men were pushed to their limits but in the end, the 5-time Wimbledon champion could not come up with enough to break Nadal and Rafa walked out of there with his first ever Wimbledon title. It couldn't have been a better game, with Nadal winning the first two sets 6-4, 6-4 and Federer coming back to win the next two in a tiebreaker, 7-6, 7-6, with Nadal holding 2 championship points in the fourth set. With the light waning the two battled back and forth in the fifth set, a set where you need two games to win. Federer just could not break the stronger, faster and younger Nadal and that was the difference. Nadal finally  broke through at 9:15 in the evening with a 9-7 fifth set victory. We have a new king, and the reign of Federer is over. Nadal has proven he is no longer the best player never to be #1, and expect him to become the world's highest ranked player in the coming weeks. Federer had a great run at the top and will still break Sampras' record (he needs only three more to break the record) but watching Federer and his foil, Nadal, battle it out in the coming years will be fantastic. Easily the best Wimbledon finals, and possibly game, in history.

Family Guy: Blue Harvest

Ahhh, this DVD was one I was looking forward too as soon as it hit the airwaves. The Family Guy: Blue Harvest special episode. It was a 45 minute spoof of Star War A New Hope and it was all funny. There is a part at the end which mentions Robot Chicken Star Wars episode, and even though it aired before the Family Guy episode, the Robot Chicken one as of this writing is still not released. Weird.

Another thing I should mention is that I finished a review today of something I haven't reviewed in over 4 years, and haven't watched since the end of 2004, and that is wrestling. I don't watch the current WWE product but while at school last year I went to a TNA event and it kind of sparked my love of wrestling again. I still can't commit the way I did before and watch (and record) every show, and I still don't keep up on it, but I recently have been watching old matches that I grew up on from DVD's I already had, then I wanted to add to that collection with newer WWE releases that highlighted those times. I added only a few classic DVD's and those reviews will make their way to the site shortly.

One Year Anniversary

Howdy blog readers. As you may or may not know, today marks my one-year wedding anniversary. I have to say I am pretty damn lucky to have found the perfect woman and today marks a special celebration for my wife and I.

I also wanted to come on here and post another review, since last weekend I was out of town and wasn't able to. This will be a short posting, since I am on vacation and I still have a lot of festivities in store for the rest of this afternoon and evening. Now, for your reading pleasure, Justice League: New Frontier has been added to the site. It was an awesome DVD and any comic book fan should have it in their collection.
