Mytbbusters Collection 1

I had wanted to post this on Friday night but this weekend was a very busy one and I didn't get a chance until today. Basically, I have two classes on Tuesdays and I had major assignments due for each. Of course, I knew about these assignments weeks in advance but I never had time to do them until this weekend. So I worked very long on that and I was also at SJU from 5-1030 on Friday night and from 7-10 on Saturday night to watch the SJU Volleyball team host the first two rounds of the NCAA tournement. They were awesome and they made it into the sweet sixteen. I can't tell you how happy I am that they are doing this well, having watched them since my junior year in college. Anyway, in terms of the website, expect TPL to be delayed this week. I had 26 books to read and I really only started this evening. With work and school, I doubt this will be done in time for Tuesday evening.

Besides that, I have Mythbusters Collection 1 DVD review that I just added to the site. It was a pretty decent collection. I still have a boatload of DVD's to plow through so I am working on that, too. Hopefully now that my classes are over as of Tuesday, I have some more time to focus on the TPL and DVD reviews. That's all for today. Enjoy the week ahead.

American Dad 12/02/07 and Heroes 12/03/07

No new Family Guy this week which is probably a good thing, last episode was pretty bad. American Dad was a repeat last week but was all new this week. Basically Francine decides to be a surrogate for the local gay couple (the newscasters) and Stan is of course against that. There were some funny gay jokes in there, from the staunch Republican Stan, but the moral of the story is that even two same sex parents can raise children as well as the traditional family. Stan realizes this right after he's abducted some children from the reporters and a lesbian couple. The payoff of Stan at the picnic party and having to stay a certain distance away due to the restraining order was pretty funny. There was an unhumurous subplot of Steve and Roger being scared of Klaus. It didn't go anywhere. Overall, it was a subpar episode in my opinion and I'd give it a C+.

Heroes, on the other hand, kicked ass. I don't know where to begin. We finally have the showdown between Hiro and Kensei, with Hiro banishing Kensei away forever. Claire wants to expose the company but is shocked when her father returns alive, and tells her not to. Sylar brings Maya, Molly and Suresh to Suresh's lab to find a cure for himself and Suresh finds that Sylar has the same virus Nikki has. Elle spies them on the camera and goes to make the save. Sylar manages to shoot Maya but Suresh saves her with Claire's blood. Elle shows up and blasts Sylar away but not before he has the blood. Nathan and Parkman show up to meet with Peter and Nathan convinces Peter that Adam is using him. Peter comes to his senses quickly enough to stop the virus from spreading and destroys the vial. Nikki saves Monica from the thug but not before getting trapped in a flaming building and having it explode. Strange that she saves a girl from a flaming building like DL did. Peter, Nathan and Matt decide to take this public, with Nathan calling a press conference. Right before his big announcement he is shot twice and we see someone (HRG?) walking away. Mrs. Petrelli is saddened by this but knew it had to happen. That's the end to Volume 2. We still have some questions, who shot Peter? Is Nikki dead? Have we seen the last of Adam? We get a brief look at Volume 3 "Villains," with Sylar pumping himself with Claire's blood and getting his telekinesis (and I assume other powers) back. This was a great end to the mini-season, especially after last episode was pretty weak.

Office Space

The newest review posted this week has to be one of my top ten favorite work movies. The movie is Office Space and it really shows what life in the cubicle is like. Check out my thoughts on the DVD itself and see how it fared. In other DVD news, I still have a stack of DVD's I need to plow through and since classes are over I hope to get more done. I am almost done with a director's cut version of a comic book film and the next six DVDs after that are all season sets. Those take me a little longer but I hope to be able to post every week. That's enough from me today. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Annie Special Anniversary Edition

Ahhh, the first review of one of the $4.00 Target DVDs purchased on Black Friday. I usually don't go out of order with DVD's when I review them but this one was so short I could literally knock it out the day I watched it so it jumped over some DVD's I've had in my collection August. Well, I never even mentioned what DVD I have posted this week. It would be the Annie Special Anniversary Edition. I have never seen the movie but my wife loved it when she would watch it as a kid and you really can't beat a $4.00 price tag so it ended up in our shopping cart. I've actually been productive this month with the DVD reviews. Annie was finished on 12/2/07, and I actually have 4 DVD reviews ready to be posted for the rest of the month. That should give me enough time to wade through some of the season collections I am now viewing (Futurama especially). Enough for now, I still have about 20 comics to get through for TPL and about 80 quizzes to grade, as well as about 100 comics to file away in the basement before the NCAA Volleyball finals comes on TV tonight.

American Dad 12/16/07

This may be the last new show of American Dad for a while. I don't know if the writers strike will effect this show at all. So no Heroes, Family Guy or American Dad for the near future. This would be the Christmas episode of American Dad and what a doozy it was. Stan comes home to a house decked out in Christmas decorations but it just isn't good enough for him. He makes the family trek out to the forest, in sub-freezing temperatures to find the perfect tree. He ends up climbing up a mountain while his family freezes in the car and after he chopped the tree down, it fell on him. Stan actually dies and goes to heaven. He tries to get a second chance back alive (since his family is literally freezing to death in their car) but in second chance court he fails. So he steals a heaven gun to break into the birthday for JC to demand from God a second chance. He actually makes it with the help of his bumbling wingless lawyer and holds a gun to God to get a second chance. God tells him no but when Stan finally does a selfless act, he's allowed to go back. He even gets wings for the angel, too. Stan shows up right as he walked in the door at the beginning of the episode and celebrates with his family. There's a great callback at the end with the angel and a drunken Roger and this was just a classic episode with plenty of laughs and good cheer to go around. A.

Daredevil Director's Cut

Well, I can safely say that I am done with teaching for the year. The Christmas break has arrived and I won't be heading back until 2008. I am going to relax like crazy this week, work on some of my reviews, do some fun things and just enjoy my time off. This is one of the reasons I like teaching, these vacations they give you! Anyway, its Saturday which means its DVD review posting day. I don't know if you knew this, but I don't usually finish reviews every week. For instance, I am working on Futurama Vol. 2 right now and since it's a long one (19 episodes, 19 commentaries, that's 38 episodes I'm watching before any extras) and it may take a while to do it. The movie reviews that have been posted the last few weeks usually only take a few days so I usually build a bit of a backlog before I post any. I have Daredevil Director's Cut being posted this week, I have Season Two of a popular TV series set for the next week and two music DVD's set for the week after. This gives me more than three weeks to finish more reviews (hopefully I'll knock out Futurama Vols. 2 and 3, Superman: Doomsday, and the NHL Game 7 collection). I'm actually working on the Game 7 NHL Collection right now as well. I watch Futurama while I work on say, TPL, and doing actual school or homework, and I watch the NHL games while playing hockey on X-Box. That's enough for today. As mentioned before, the Director's Cut of Daredevil has been posted. I enjoyed it and you can check out the full review from the link above. If I don't post again, enjoy your Christmas and have a Happy New Year.

Full House Season 2

Well Christmas has come and gone and it was a very eventful one for me. My wife and I went upstate to visit my parents on the 23rd and stayed until Christmas Day. We left around 2:00pm and got home around 3:30pm and hung out with her parents. We aren't big on gift-giving so I can't say I got any incredible gifts but its not about the gifts for me anymore. Its about being with family and celebrating the birth of Christ.

Since I was upstate and due to the holidays, I haven't been to the comic book store so TPL will most likely be delayed this week, if it's even listed at all. I probably won't be getting the books until Sunday! Oh well, it's okay to take a vacation every once in a while and let me tell you I am enjoying this vacation very much. I still have one class set to grade but that will be done Sunday.

Wow, I went on two tangents and didn't even post what I wanted to. Up now on the website is Full House Season 2. It included the first ever Christmas episode, which was very sweet and charming, as well as some pretty decent episodes. Still, it's very extras-lite which caused its ratings. On the DVD side of things I only have 1 post left before I run out of material and its a two-fer of DVD's included on CD's. I am about halfway through Futurama Volume 2 and that should be done by next week but after that with school starting again and another Futurama Volume on the horizon I may hit a dry spell for a week or two. Hopefully I can bang out a few small ones and not have that happen but we will see. Enough for today, Happy New Year!
