The Honeymoon So Far...

So as you all know Dolores and I got married on July 27th. It was the bestest day of my life (no exaggeration). Full details of that will be posted eventually on our Wedding Blog in the future. I will be commenting on here on all the fun things we'll be doing on our month-long honeymoon! YAY!!!! So, we got married on the 27th, I had work on the 30th and 31st (my last two days ever at MessageLabs!) and the first part of our honeymoon fell on the evening of July 30th. Dolores and I had the honor to see Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp return to the cast of Rent to reprise the roles of Roger and Mark, two roles they first started back in 1996. It was easily the best performance of the 4 times I have seen Rent and any Rent fan must see Adam and Anthony to see how awesome they are. When they came out on stage for the first time the applause was thunderous and continued for 5 minutes. They broke into "Rent" and it had so much feeling and energy that it really got me pumped. Adam killed on "One Song Glory" and Anthony was amazing on "Halloween." Definitely the highlight for me was when they did "What You Own," which is not only the best song on the soundtrack, this was the original duo performing it and doing an amazing job. It was just magic the whole night.

July 31st I was extremely happy to be finishing my 5-month tenure at MessageLabs. See, they're moving to Canada, well my department is at least and there is no way I am moving out of New York so we had to depart. They are paying me almost 4 months pay for my time there so all is good. It is a great company and I have no ill will towards them at all. They were very professional in the way they handled our departures and we in return actually worked hard to make sure it was a smooth move. Anyway, I got home from my last day of work and slept a bit, then Dolores and I went out with her brother, Tommy to Roosevelt Field Mall for an evening of shopping and some nice dinner at Majestic Diner. We then came back and D and I had an aqua massage which felt really nice. We then dropped Tommy off at his parish and said our goodbyes since he's leaving for Poland in a few days and will be gone pretty much the rest of the month.

August 1st was another fun day. We went out to Long Beach, a true hidden gem in New York. A lot of people flock to Jones Beach or further out on the island but Long Beach is just an amazing place, with beautiful beaches and just a real laid back attitude. Friends we have from California tell us that Long Beach is very much like CA and they usually go to Long Beach when they are feeling homesick. So we went to Long Beach and just enjoyed a nice evening on the sand. We even mustered up some courage to go out into the ocean! Granted we didn't have swimming trunks on and went in our shorts and tee-shirts but it was so much fun just being in the water. We even picked up some seashells!!! What fun.

That's been the honeymoon so far. We still have a bunch of fun things planned which I will post when I get back from them!!! Thanks for reading!

Stewie's Guide to World Domination

This is just a mini-review for the first Family Guy book: Stewie's Guide to World Domination. This was released way back in April of 2005 abd featured everyone's favorite baby: Stewie Griffin. This was really him talking about his family, the world in general and his guide to how to rule the world. It was written by Steve Callaghan and while it did provide some funny things (the three r's, his assessment of work and obesity) but everything else falls flat on its face and just comes off as general complaints with the world in general. It is not as funny as the show at all and was honestly boring at times. It is nowhere near the quality of the Lois book I reviewed on this blog. For a first attempt, this one is quite passable and casual fans would be very disappointed as it is a huge drop in quality from the TV show. Avoid this one.

Rent: The Book

I just finished reading the Rent book, published in 1997 and known to some Rentheads as the "Rent Bible." I flew through the book in just a day and it was pretty interesting. They have a section on Larson's early life, a big segment on the creation Rent up to Jon's death and it's release on the public, the full lyrics to the entire play (aka the Libretto), a brief section on the effects of Rent on the cast and the world, and finally notes and musings from the cast and crew associated with the Original Broadway Cast. I thought the book was put together very well with tons of pictures and input from all relevant parties. I think one hindrance of the book is its age. Rent has been out for over a decade now and has since become a film, so the book could stand to be updated a bit, with some cast and crew thoughts on the subject after some distance between the play and their role in it.

I would definitely recommend the book to any Rent fanatic. Casual fans would probably be better off checking out the very long documentary on disc two of the Rent 2-disc set, which includes a lot of what is in here and includes things from the movie, too.

No Day But Today.

Fantastic Four Extended Edition

Well, it has been a while since there has been a Saturday review, but I finally finished another DVD!!!! This time, it's the latest Marvel DVD to be released (I think), it is Fantastic Four Extended Edition. I waited diligently and I knew my waiting to get FF on DVD would pay off with a double-disc extended set being released and me not bitching for wasting $20 on the original single-disc release. So it's up there for you to read. I am almost done with another review (Ghost Rider) and I have a huge collection of DVDs to review these coming months. I just got Heroes the other day and that will skip over a bunch of the stuff on the docket so I can watch it all before the new season begins. I also have a book I am reading that I will most likely review, I am about halfway done with it. That's it for now, see you in the funny pages.
